Dirac equation

Apart from the relativistic KG equation, which did not consider the spin of the particles, Dirac considered spin 1/2 systems in his relativistic equation. Dirac was influenced by Maxwell's equations, which were first order equations in both space and time coordinates. Dirac equation can be written in spinor covarient form suggesting their invariance under Lorentz transformation and special relativity. It also provides the evidences for negative energy states, and there by predicted the existence of antiparticle states. The equation also provides Space-time symmetry. Being the first order covariant equation symmetric  with space and time, which intrinsically considered spin 1/2 systems, Dirac equation is superior equation of motion for describing a single electron ( spin 1/2 fermions) system in quantum mechanics.
