Role of other phases in shifting the absorption peak

It is quite interesting where to take a shift of the absorption peaks corresponding to single phase of materials in view of their coexistence with other valid phases. The question is, whether the peaks corresponding to each phase co exist or get modified and shifted to a new value wherein it compromises with two phases? In our recent research on synthesis of Silver nanoparticles from Bread Mold extract, we could get a co existence of zero valent silver nanoparticles and traces of silver oxides. In xrd pattern intense peaks corresponding to both phases were observed. In FTIR pattern as well the metallic oxide phases could identify. Usually, we know that peaks around 410 to 430  nm are observed for zero valent silver nanoparticles which varies slightly as a function of size whereas for silver oxides, at 250 nm. But, in our case we couldn't get the respective peaks even after repetitive attempts, but shifted to a new position which is sought to be compromised with two phases at 373 and 273 nm. What should one say about this interesting peak shift? In my understanding, the possible explanation is sought to the modifications of  energy levels of one phase with other phase. In fact, for a particular phase, say zero valent silver, the other phase, silver oxide, remains continued as impurity phase and vice versa. This would cause accommodative modifications in individual energy level positions of both the species. The compromised position of this accomodation imparts further absorption to occur among some of these modified new levels in accordance with selection rules. Even though chemically of the same composition, depending on the intrisic variations in one to one impurity phases, this modified accommodative positions would further spread, owing to additional absorption peaks as noted by 273 nm apart from one at 373 nm. Still one observed at 228 nm is aslo sought under the purview of this explanation. In presence of the formation of these modified accommodative levels, the absorptions corresponding to individual phase levels of each species get quenched off and as a result of this we shall be observing the peculiar pattern of absorption in uv-visible range.

GREEN Research

The term GREEN is often related to environment friendly approach which do not shed hazardous impact on nature. Here I am using the same terminology in connection with ethics to be kept with while doing the research. In basic research, the dynamic knowledge opens way for fact wherein one has to put deliberate efforts to follow up ethics over the span of brain storming process of analysis. The gravity of basic research has wide dimensions apart from the bussiness and the desire to get it published in high impact journals and further get cited by other authors to upgrade the h-index. Of course, your findings has to be published for the scientific community in order to be continued from there, which ultimately lead to the virtue of society, so called the green research. So, for the research to be green,  researchers need to conceive themselves their findings at first to the community closely surrounded. The feedback from this community, followed up with fruitful discussions can be incorporated in the repetitive attempts in the process of recreation. Now, distribute the knowledge among the researchers and students, who can be accessed in your circle. As part of  outreach activities come out of the laboratory and interact with common people and spread your findings in a manner how a layman can be found benefit out of it. In parallel to the attempts to distribute, one can get the findings published for the entire community as well. Green research do not support cumulated publications which remain showcased alone, but support people friendly approach as described above.

A researcher needs to be self critic

Research is the process of synthesising knowledge and no body can guarantee that today's knowledge can long last as a fact, rather, tomorrow it may be a blender. In fact, knowledge is dynamic, not a static rigid; but the fact is unique and it is our limitation that we take a span of time to get refined out of the time to time dynamic knowledge to reach up to the set goal of fact. Perhaps, our mistakes are attributed to our limitations once. In order to avoid misleading the scientific community, your old mistakes, once identified after crossed over the period of limitations, should be corrected and for which one needs to be self critic, especially the researchers. Keeping in mind this ethical fact, somehow I tried to read again my earlier research publications and painfully I could realize that there happened some serious mistakes in interpreting the data in some of my old publications, which I felt irrelevant and needs to be corrected. It was necessary and I had requested for the withdrawal (or requested retraction as per the journals' publishing policy) of that published works, and the editorial board of that journals could understand my ethical overflow and had done the job to  my level of satisfaction. I strongly believe that researchers need to be self critic, always be recalled of their old mistakes in history, for the needful corrections and further supposed to be getting refined at all. Therefore, research is the process of reaching the ultimate fact through the synthesis of dynamic knowledge. I hope the process of self refinement is inevitable for every researcher, which has been gone through in my case and now I am happy that I seem to be much enthusiastic and highly inquisitive in my research career than ever before.

Adding to it on 20 Jan 2018: Recently, I got an invitation from a top journal regarding the republication of one of my articles previously published in JOSC.  From the words of Editorial office, it was written such that with reference to the article you had reverted from JOSC We feel that the topic of the article is very interesting. Therefore, we are delighted to invite you to publish your work in our journal. Following was my reply to the editor:

Dear Sir
Thank you for your interest in considering the Republication of one of my articles that I reverted from JOSC for comprehensive corrections. In fact, this article was reverted after my repeated request to do so as I have found some serious errors throughout the manuscript in interpreting the data. I had convinced this to my coauthors and the journal editorial board and finally it came to the stage today what it is. During the analysis as well as pre publication stages, nobody could identify the errors. It could be only identified during the progress in my research in this field and it was realized that it was due to the limitations of our knowledge that time the error occurred. An erratum was published at one stage but it was found insufficient and unsatisfied further. So it was my ethical concern that nobody should further cite that paper, so I decided to revert this paper myself for further corrections as being the first and corresponding author, in consultation with my coauthors. I have almost corrected the anomalies in this paper and had again requested the same journal for considering its Republication. Editor's response is pending and after hearing their decision only I can think about other journal options to get it republished.

Thanking you
Faithfully
Dr.Arun
